Snowsnakes coming out @ -34C !!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You guys are not going to believe this but it's 5:30 am now and I haven't been able to sleep all night!! Last night I put my sheperd/rotti out for his evening constitutional and he was attacked by a swarm of snowsnakes...really no bs..I wouldn't lie to you. Sure I know they are only supposed to frequent ski hills and cross country ski trails but they were out there in my back yard..lurking in the snowbank!! It's just a good thing I was home and heard the ruckus or heaven only knows what would have happened to my best friend. :-0 There was at least as half dozen of them and from examining their tracks by flashlight I can attest that one of them was at least 6 ft long!! I'll bet it even had red eyes [pure speculation]?? Being a hunter / fisherman you know I wouldn't exaggerate or lie about this but now I need help!! I grabbed my odd six and went after them, but they escaped across the river with the ice being thin I was afraid to follow, now I am thinking perhaps I was making a big big mistake...was I undergunned? Is it too dangerous to hunt snowsnakes in the dark? Any advice would be appreciated.

PS. Buck the dog is doing fine, his hair is a little mussed up but his appetite has returned.

I believe your tale mainly because I too have been surrounded by snow snakes while in the winter woods.

Usually after a rum or three ................. LoL

Snow snakes can be trapped! You must bait the trap with a scantily clad snow bunny! And this is very important, she must be no older than 25!!! Something to do with pheromones or some such thing (don't always understand these things but I follow instructions). Once trapped, throw in a two four of Blue & Bob's yer uncle, no more snow snakes!!!

So what do you use for bait to catch the scantily clad, under 25, snow bunny in the first place? Will a cool car work, as I have one of those.. Not the best fro crusing around on snow covered roads mind you..

They sometimes even venture into small towns on the outskirts as well.
Usually they are young ones that can't fend for themselves in the big wilds.

You have to really take care when the snow flies as to not injure your trusted friend and field companion. You might be a little undergunned with that Odd Six for bigguns and lord nows what we can use in town here due to the no discharge regs.I have never heard of one being taken with archery tackle

Got home from the east coast yesterday and was told by my wife that she has heard some weird sound on the deck lately and the dog has been acting funny too!
I stayed up a litle late to see if I could figure out what the sounds were making sure I stayed alert and warmed up with some natural antifreeze/anticoagulant liquid and to my surprise I did hear some strange things indeed!!

Luke and I went out into the yard this morning to investigate and found what I think could be some true evidence.

Could be baby snake entrance holes?

On the track

something moved!!

Well I tell ya', it is snowing like the dickens here in the LML.......

Sure hope your snow snakes stay away as it is already bad enough with the "snow drivers"......... if we had them snakes to worry about, well, lets just say that the army would have to be called out to stop the stampedeing......

Your just not going to believe this guys but they came back last night..and in force...pretty scary to say the least!! The little woman snuck a peek out the upstairs bedroom window, around midnight, and you could see them in the moonlight...had to be at least a dozen circling the house...no bs here...the absolute truth!!

This time I was ready to defend the homestead, I was fully armed and did a quick double take on my little arsenal...leghold traps,yup..458mag,yup..Backoff Snake,yup..shotgun,yup..smoke and mirrors,yup...let me tell you I was ready for WAR!!! So you see I just gathered all my goodies up, all the gear you guys suggested, and blew out that back door likity split and rarin' to rumble!!!!

Well, as the story goes, things went bad right off the start!! First I had a blowout in my right boot and went down hard...my extra large improved can of backoff snake went off accidentally and bad luck of it all completely fogged up my mirrors...right off the start I was carrying a huge handicap. No lies here guys all up and up truth!! Not to mention all the snow that went down my back...well about this time I was, honestly, a little embarrassed as the little woman was watchin' this whole performance! Talk about a blow to my male ego. I had to do something and I had to do it fast....the snakes were heading for the river and I just knew time was running out so I up and threw all those leg hold traps out in front of them to slow 'em down, can you visualize this?, had the 458 in my left..the shotgun in my right...Rambo watch out!! and took off after them just a blazing away...I could hear the little woman over the roar of the guns just a cheering me on...ahhhh my male ego restored!! And then it happened, you will find this one hard to believe..but the rest of the story..

The snowsnakes were slithering across the river ice....shards of ice and water spray were erupting all around them... I reloaded and blazed away..it's amazing what a three inch mag ssg will do...when it happened!! The leading snowsnake lurched...I could tell he was hit hard..he starts to violently thrashing around on the ice and his tail end slips into one of the holes in the ice and, you'll find this a stretch, be damned if he doesn't knock a ten pound trout up onto the ice...no bull, no hippie lettuce, no mushrooms...I wouldn't lie!! Well let me tell you, proud, doesn't describe the feeling I got me a darned snowsnake and a ten pound trout all with that one shot, ok then maybe only nine, but it's my story and it's ok to embellish a little right? No bs here guys only the honest truth!! Actually I was so proud, just couldn't help myself, I starts to strutting around and puffing up my chest when my lawd..if I don't blow a button on my shirt..and that button flys up into the trees and damnnation out falls a grouse!! No Bs...all gospel truth!!! I got me a snowsnake, a ten pound trout..and a chicken all in one fell swoop!! Can you believe it?? My wife is so proud!!
