What would you do? LEH overdraw
Greetings,
This my first post. Thanks for having me aboard. I have drawn 4 LEH tags. Now, I certainly was'nt expecting that! 1) Mountain Goat 2) Mulie doe 3) Full Curl Ram 4) Grizzly The two big contenders are Full Curl ram in the Atlin area and Grizzly in Omineca 7A. Problem is, I only have resources and time for one hunt. If you had these options what would you do? Thanks, Happy Hunting |

What were the odds on the hunts? Thats what i would use to figure out which one I would hunt.
Most of the Atlin sheep hunts are at less then 2:1. One hunt is actually under prescribed so you should be able to get that one every year. What are the odds on the Grizz hunt too. Do you know the area at all? Some of those grizz hunts are low odds and would be almost impossible to get one unless you hunt the area regularily. Goat is pretty much open throughout the northern half of the province so unless its one of the late season skeena hunts I would ditch that one. Also if you have never really hunted goat you would probably shoot a smaller goat as its real tough to tell a average goat from a great goat so the skeena tag (known for big billies coming down off the mountain) is probable as good as a general season throughout much of the north. I would never travel any distance to shoot a doe. I only apply (when I do) for these in my backyard so i can hunt them after work. I wouldn't drive from the coast to region 3 just for a doe. If you tie it in with a moose or elk hunt then maybe. Also are you looking for meat or a trophy? A grizz would look great on the wall but after a tough hunt where maybe one bear is killed a year, you may be regretting the grizz hunt and wondering why you did not fill the freezer (or 1/10 the freezer) with the doe. Just the way i would do it. Alex |

The first question I would ask is what area do you know the most??
If this is your first time for all areas, then find the one that works the cheapest so that you can go on at least two hunts. My choice would be the ram in early Sept, then travel down for some time for the grizz. I agree with Alex in that goats can be had in the GOS and a mulie doe is a meat tag that can be filled on a weekend hunt. Ram and then the Grizz, the others are not a once in a lifetime tags. What areas?? And good luck.....you luck bugger. ![]() Cheers SS

goat hunt
hey Hold'em
For your goat draw what area do you have the draw for? If it's in the skeena 6-15 k, j, h or zone A of 6-10, 6-11 i can be of assistance. it's a awsome hunting area and I'm quite familiar with area as i am up there every chance i get during the draws and have taken several goats in those mountains. Your draw for atlin where abouts is your draw for? If it's 625-d,c, or 627-A i have hunted those areas for moose and cariboo numerous seasons and have encountered sheep on my travels may times, but never fortunate enough to get the sheep draw. maybe i can help. last but not least where is your grizz draw? Maybe i've been there as i have been many places in my hunting years. Lonelyhunter, Rob |
