Hunting Camouflage Patterns
Many of us have old photographs of our grandfathers and uncles pictured beside a sagging meat pole and the men wore nothing more than old lumber jackets, wool clothes and rubber boots held together with rope.
Specialized equipment and clothing did not exist in these days, as necessity was more important than luxury. These were the days of plenty, when specialized techniques and in-depth knowledge of the game we pursued was not as important, as game populations were, in most cases, overflowing. Things have changed greatly since the gold old days. One aspect of our modern hunting equipment which has grown by leaps and bounds, is the camouflage clothing we now have available. In the early years of camouflage clothing, the patterns that existed were few and far between, and those that were available often seemed crude and unrealistic in appearance. All this changed in the 1980’s when companies began marketing more realistic-looking camouflage patterns and tailoring patterns to specific game and the terrain they inhabit.
Waterfowl Hunting Camouflage Pattern
Since concealment is perhaps the biggest consideration in a successful duck or goose hunt, water fowl hunters go to great lengths to conceal their boat, their blinds and the area around where they will be hunting. All of this ground preparation on your wetland will all be worthless should you choose an incorrect camouflage pattern. The Shadow Grass pattern by Mossy Oak answers this call perfectly, providing the water-fowl hunter with a realistic looking waterfowl and wetland pattern. The new Shadow Grass features a computer enhanced background containing some red oak bark overlaid with a mottled pattern of bottom land grasses. When properly positioned in the dry early fall wetland shrubbery, the water-fowl hunter is virtually invisible to a passing duck or goose.
Moose Hunting Camouflage Pattern
The moose hunt in most areas coincides with the changing colour of the leaves. In these areas containing mostly hardwoods, the new Obsession pattern of camouflage is the perfect choice for the moose hunt. The new Obsession, with its generous blend of greens and select fall tone elements, is perfectly suited for the moose hunter is many situations. Although the Obsession pattern does contain an obvious mix of oak leaves, they wisely chose a colour which would match the deep red maple forests of Quebec, yet containing some greenery left over from the summer. Again using a unique blend of proven Mossy Oak elements such as the tree limbs, ghost shadows and strategically placed leaves and vines, Obsession seems to have been tailored specifically for the early fall moose season.
White-tailed Deer Hunting Camouflage Pattern
The camouflage available for white-tailed deer hunting is possibly the most publicized and discussed issue in all of big-game hunting. This is partially because the white-tailed is the number one game animal in North America, or because several companies produce effective patterns which lend themselves to the deer season. Mossy Oak’s Break-up pattern is created with the deer hunter in mind and contains three main elements; a bark background, which features special digitally-designed bark, overlaid with a bottomland pattern. Secondly, the ghost shadows depict a shadowing effect of branches and leaves ‘out front’ of the other elements, significantly increasing a three-dimensional effect and improving concealment. The third element which makes Break-Up an ideal choice are the natural elements it includes such as bark, leaves and the limbs which are all computer enhanced and show exceptional realism.

Most clothing reflects ultraviolet, and the best way I know of for reducing that is giving them a good wash in Ivory Snow detergent. Just MHO.
